Although this drink was created for Valentine's Day, I never need an excuse to have a sweet treat! Growing up, I was never much of a milk drinker; I just don't like the taste, but when I was pregnant with Callum, I started drinking milk straight from the carton! (In the UK milk is sold in much, much smaller sizes than in the US. When I saw form the carton, I'm talking from a pint-sized carton. Not those big ol' gallon tubs you get in the states.)

An earlier version of this recipe appeared on a friend's blog, here.

I'm still not overly keen on milk, if I had to choose, it'd be my last choice, but pre-pregnancy, I wouldn't have even chosen it! I would have just settled for being thirsty. :) See, pregnancy does change you!

But, the thing I love about this drink is that you can't even taste the milk! I used banana flavored milk and added a few drops of red velvet cake coloring and flavoring to give it an extra luscious, chocolatey edge. It's delicious! And it's just over 100 calories, coming in at 101 for a serving this size!

Ingredients:

For the shake
3/4 cup banana milk, preferably ice cold
2 tsp red velvet cake flavoring
whipped cream
sprinkles

At the beginning of the month, you might remember I mentioned that I'd put myself on the Get Juiced Challenge to give up sodas. Well, it's not July 7 and I haven't had a Coke, Pepsi, Dr Pepper or any other soda (apart from a few Sprites) since May 31!

My Results of the Get Juiced Challenge
I have to admit, I thought it would be a lot more difficult than it was. There were one or two days when I really had a hankering for a cold bottle of Coke but I've avoided it and now, I don't even miss it! Before, I would wake up and probably have 2 or 3 cans before lunch. Then more Coke with lunch. Another can in the afternoon and then another one for dinner. Entirely too much! Now, I've replaced all of that unhealthy, sugary junk with lightly sweetened ice tea, water and juice.

On my mission to drink better, I've rediscovered some brilliant drink recipes and wanted to share a few of those with you! I hope you enjoy them!

  1. This drink looks fantastic! My husband loves banana flavored stuff, and I think he'd love this! Now I just need to find banana flavored milk. Your story about milk and pregnancy is so funny. I was not much a milk drinker either. If it isn't ice cold, it totally grosses me out. But, every time I have a baby, like within hours of having the baby, I will guzzle milk like it's going out of style. Every time, my husband has had to bring me like the school lunch size cartons and about a dozen of them, lol. I probably end up drinking a gallon of the stuff. It's so weird.

    1. Stephanie, that's hilarious! I'm glad to hear I'm not the only milk monster during & after pregnancy! lol I rememebr when I was pregnant, my mom kept telling me to have a milkshake every day because you need LOADS more Calcium because babies basically drain you of it. Maybe that's why you always guzzle it up? I hope you can find some nana milk! If not, you'll have to infuse bananas into a normal glass of milk; I'm sure it'd be just as tasty! :)
