Banish your mucus-laden cold the way nature intended with this all-natural cold & flu home remedy! This enticing brew is made with garlic, red onion and lashings of sweet honey.
Soothes 1 poorly adult
I'm a big believer in medication. As soon as a cold settles in, I reach for the cold medicine and usually can find relief rather quickly. But this cold was different. For all of last week and much of the week before, I was miserable! Neglected by the cold medicine (it just wasn't working!!!), I decided to dig out a book that was camping out in the back of my cookbook bookcase.
The vibrant orange cover bears a one-word title: "Juices". But not just any juices, homemade juices that promise to restore health and vitality. I thumbed through recipe after recipe for juice cures for all manner of ailment and physical impairment or deficit before settling on the much-amended variation of this potion.
I'll admit, I was a bit hesitant to combine garlic and onion together in a drink and felt a bit like I was bent over a cauldron, whipping up a fantastic bewitching brew. Of course, this recipe isn't that dramatic, but I was ill and slightly delirious with a fever. You'll forgive my phantasmagorical daydream, won't you?
1/8 red onion, chopped
juice of 1/2 medium-sized lemon
1 small garlic clove, crushed
1 large orange, peeled and chopped
2 tbsp honey
ice

A few notes on this recipe:
- it doesn't seem like very much, but trust me, that is all you need of this potent potion
- people who aren't ill may find this drink revolting (my husband did; I loved it, though)
- served warm, this drink can be a bit off-putting so chill the ingredients before using them and serve with ice
